On
Sunday, May 2nd, join us as we mark our 10th Anniversary and Sprint
to raise awareness and hope for those affected by brain tumours.
TThe 10th
Annual David Bloom Memorial Spring Sprint at Brampton's Professor's
Lake, is poised to be the best Sprint yet, following phenomenal
events over the past nine years that have raised more than $1-million
for brain tumour education, research and patient support.

We
began planning the Brampton Spring Sprint in the Fall of 2000,
with the goal of raising $1-million in 10 years. In 2001, our
inspiration for the event - David Bloom - passed away just a few
days before the first Sprint and after an 18-month battle with
a cancerous brain tumour. We renamed the inaugural event the David
Bloom Memorial Spring Sprint (DBMSS) and thanks to your support,
we are now at $1.1-million!
But we're
not done yet. Our passion for the cause and drive to make brain
tumours a memory remains stronger than ever as we prepare for
this year's DBMSS.
An estimated
55,000 Canadians are currently living with a brain tumour and
10,000 more are diagnosed every year. All funds from the sprint
go to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada (BTFC), a national
organization that provides support and education to the general
public and those affected by brain tumours. It is the mission
of the BTFC to reach every Canadian affected by a brain tumour
with support, education and information, and funding brain tumour
research. An independent charitable organization, BTFC is funded
entirely through donations from individuals, corporations, and
employee groups as well as through memorial gifts, planned giving
and special events."

The
Sprint
On-site registration
for the 3km Sprint and 10km fun run begins at 9:30 am. The events
will then begin promptly at 10:15 am.
Upon registering
and submitting your pledge package, you will receive a free t-shirt.
After registration, grab a free cup of coffee and some snacks
then head inside to take a first look at the dozens of silent
auction and raffle items we have up for grabs.
Around 10:15
am, there will be a fun fitness warm-up to stretch those muscles,
followed by some welcome speeches. Then, it's off to the starting
line for the 3km and 10km routes around scenic Professor's Lake.
But, you
don't have to be a runner to participate in either the 3km or
10km Sprints. Some will choose to run, jog or in-line skate along
the path, while hundreds of others will walk the trail around
the lake.
The event
doesn't end after crossing the finish line! We have lots of activities
once you're back from the Sprint. They include:
- A
BBQ where you can buy a hamburger, drink and bag
of chips for one low price.
- A
kids zone
featuring activities for the little Sprinters, including clowns,
face painting, balloon animals, a cookie-decorating station
and arts-and-crafts centre.
- A
silent auction featuring everything from art, electronics,
sports memorabilia, gift certificates, sports tickets and so
much more (check back to this page as the event draws nearer
for an updated list of auction items).
Pause
for the Cause
Looking for
a quiet moment to get a real sense as to why we're Sprinting?
Stop by our survivor and memory board to read stories about those
battling the condition and those whom we have lost. Everyone is
welcome to put a card, photo or note up on the board to honour
a friend, family member or someone they know affected by a brain
tumour.
This year,
we'll also have the Brain Tumour Foundation's Hats Tribute, a
collection of personal stories from those who successfully defeated
their brain tumour and those who were not as fortunate. We are
honoured to be able to share these stories - and this very powerful
display in its entirety - at our event this year.
Ready...Set...SPRINT!
So get out
those comfy shoes, start stretching those muscles and don't forget
to bring your family and friends along to this inspiring event
because this year's David Bloom Memorial Spring Sprint is going
to be the best Sprint yet!
See you on
May 2nd!
