"To think I did all that. And may I say, not in a shy way: No, oh no not me, I did it my way." - Frank Sinatra.

The song My Way was performed by David Bloom at his 19th birthday party. It was his last performance in front of a microphone.

At David's suggestion, we started planning the first Brampton Spring Sprint in the Fall of 2000, along with our friends and extended family, about one year after David was diagnosed with an inoperable cancerous brain tumour. In April, 2001, David passed away - only 12 days before the inaugural Brampton Spring Sprint took place. The event was renamed the "David Bloom Memorial Spring Sprint" in David's honour.

David was only 17 years old when diagnosed with the condition and only 19 years old when he passed away, but his legacy and spirit live on.

As a singer, actor, dancer and straight -A student, David's presence, charisma, enthusiasm and zest for life touched thousands of people not just in his hometown of Brampton but also across the country.

From a very young age, Dave was an entertainer. He loved the spotlight, had incredible talent and stage presence and loved to perform, and when he did, he left everyone speechless!

He had a power that cannot adequately be described in words - the ability to move people, to make them laugh, to make them smile, to make them forget about their troubles, to bring them to tears!

From shows at Paramount Canada's Wonderland to the Charlottetown Festival's "Somewhere in the World" to a community-theatre performance of "My Fair Lady" to the lead role of Billy Bigelow in his school's performance of "Carousel", David always wowed the crowds to standing ovations.

Preserving David's spirit is what this very special event is about. What's more, it's about finding a cure for brain tumours, so other families won't have to cope with the illness.
An estimated 55,000 Canadians are currently living with a brain tumour, and 10,000 more will be diagnosed each year.
Every year, thousands of people across Canada walk to raise money for the foundation. Every year, researchers get closer to a cure.

Remember, together we ARE making a difference!!! See you on May 4th as we Sprint to $1-million!

Sincerely
The Bloom Family and the Organizing Committee of the David Bloom Memorial Spring Sprint
