The Brampton Guardian
David Bloom Spring Sprint at Professor's Lake Sunday
The second annual David
Bloom Memorial Spring Sprint, in aid of the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada
will be held at Professor's Lake Recreation Centre this Sunday.
Registration is at 9:30
a.m., the event begins at 10:30 a.m. and there will be live entertainment,
juice and coffee, and hundreds of participants walking, running or wheeling
the three km around the lake at 1660 North Park Dr. There will also be a live
and silent auction, awards, door prizes and a barbecue.
Brampton resident Bloom
was only 17 when he was diagnosed with an inoperable cancerous brain tumour
and died last April, at the age of 19.
Organizers have already
raised more than $80,000 this year- well on the way to their $150,000 goal-
through sales of a small stuffed teddy bear called a DB Bear and a silent
auction.
In its inaugural year,
the spring sprint raised $120,000.
"Last year we were
the largest in the 13 years these sprints have been held across Canada,"
Lawrie Bloom, David's father, told city councillors Monday night.
"The foundation
means the world to us," Bloom said. "After David passed away last
year, we brought in record numbers and this year we're going to beat that
amount."
For more information, check the group's Web site at www.springsprint.com. Pledge forms are available by calling the foundation at 1-877-236-1927. Everyone collecting $30 in pledges or more will receive a free T-shirt.
