Spring Sprint being held at local lake

On Sunday, May 5, more than 1,000 people from across Southern Ontario will put on their walking shoes and head to Professor's Lake to participate in the second annual David Bloom Memorial Spring Sprint.
"The foundation means the world to us," said Lawrie Bloom, sprint chair. "After David passed away last year, we brought in record numbers and this year we're going to beat that amount."
All proceeds are being donated to the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada (BTFC) in memory of David's courageous fight against an inoperable cancerous brain tumor that took the 19-years-old's life last year.
As a singer, actor, dancer and straight A student, David's presence, charisma, enthusiasm and zest for life touched thousands of people, not just in his hometown of Brampton, but also across the country.
This year, Brampton will join nine other communities across Canada in the Spring Sprint. To date, the sprint has already secured nearly $65,000 in corporate sponsorship-- triple last year's pre-event tally, said Bloom who is looking to beat last year's over-all total of $120,000.
You can register for the event by obtaining a pledge-form package from the BTFC by calling 1-877-236-1927. All participants obtaining $30 or more in pledges will receive a 2002 Spring Sprint T-shirt.
Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. on the day of the event, with the sprint starting at 10:30 a.m. Participants will walk, run, or wheel the three-km around Professor's Lake. The festivities will continue until 1 p.m., with live entertainment, an awards presentation, silent auction, door prize raffle and barbecue.
