Support
Brampton Spring Sprint May 6
Letter to the editor
Apr. 6, 2001
In October 1999, at the age of 17, my brother David was diagnosed with an astrocytoma -- an inoperable cancerous brain tumor. Since that time, my family, David's friends at Mayfield Secondary School and scores of people throughout our community have worked to become better educated about brain tumors. To this end, the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada has been a constant source of support.
As a way of giving back, my family and friends have taken on the challenge to coordinate the inaugural Brampton Spring Sprint -- the Brain Tumor Foundation's annual walk-a-thon.
It will be held Sunday, May 6, at Professor's Lake Recreation Centre starting at 10:30 a.m. and Brampton joins 13 other communities across Canada in hosting a Spring Sprint this year. While we are expecting between 500-1,000 people at the event, we'd like to invite all of Brampton to show their support and help make a difference in the lives of those affected by brain tumors.
Ontario Minister of Health Tony Clement and Brampton Mayor Susan Fennel will be among the dignitaries attending, CHFI morning news anchor Lisa Brandt will be the emcee, there will be live entertainment, a post-walk barbecue, as well as a silent auction and raffle.
We hope the people of Brampton will lend their support to this event so the foundation can continue to provide its many services to David, my family and others across Canada. To get a registration package, call 1-800-265-5106.
Richard Bloom, co-ordinator, Brampton Spring Sprint
